12 Days Of Christmas!

20 Dec

Dan and I don’t usually get to exchange our presents on Christmas day because we’re visiting family, and it’s easier to have our own little Christmas prior to traveling.  So, we knew we’d be opening our gifts early, but  we wanted to do something different this year.  This is our first holiday season in Los Angeles, and, as much as I love the weather here (75 degrees and sunny!), it was hard to believe it was time to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.  We both love to give each other presents and we needed a dose of holiday spirit… so, we came up with our own 12 Days Of Christmas!

We planned to get each other small gifts (Every day items, useful things, silly things, dollar store stuff) for 11 days. On the 12th day (the day we leave for Christmas vacation), we would do a more significant present.  Let me tell you, it was so much fun!!  Like I said before, we love to get each other presents and we both love getting presents.  We had a blast planning out  the presents, wrapping them, hiding them from each other until it was time.  We both got creative and even came up with some daily themes! It was so exciting to wake up with each other every morning and share  our gifts.  It reminded me of waking up as a child on Christmas morning… okay, let’s be honest… I become a child again every Christmas morning.  There is nothing quite like the anticipation!  Waiting to see what you will open… waiting to see the faces of your loved ones as they open a present you picked out just for them.  It’s just so special.  And, of course, there is the most special gift of all… the gift God gave us and the reason we celebrate Christmas.  It truly is the most wonderful time of year.  So, here’s a look at our 12 Days Of Christmas:

just love!

There you have it! Our 12 Days Of Christmas… It was such a fun way to speak a love language we don’t always get to use and spoil each other just a little bit.  I truly love the holiday season and sharing gifts with those I love… And as the ghost of Christmas Present in the Muppet Christmas Carol puts so well:

“A part of childhood we’ll always remember
It is the summer of the soul in December
Yes, when you do your best for love it feels like Christmas

It is the season of the heart
A special time of caring
The ways of love made clear
It is the season of the spirit
The message if we hear it
Is make it last all year”

The presents are great, but the love behind them is the important part. So, let’s make Christmas last all year! 🙂
